Bees National Anthem auditions held ahead of Bees season

Local News

(ABC4 News) – The Salt Lake Bees season doesn’t start for a month but Saturday the team held *sing* training.

Two dozen of vocalists auditioned to sing the national anthem before a game at Smith’s Ballpark this summer. Three Bees employees played the roles of Simon, Paula, and Randy as judges in Bees idol. So what makes a star-spangled banner star?

Nikki Sim from the Salt Lake Bees Game Operations said, “Talent is a big thing and confidence and just people that we can say that we’re comfortable putting them in a big crowd setting.”

He added that they have crowds anywhere from 5 to 15,000 so they look for people who are comfortable in a big sports setting, look professional, are very comfortable with themselves and can sing a good rendition.

Later this month the hopefuls will find out if they earned one of the 70 spots. That is how many home games the Bees have scheduled between opening day and Labor Day. The home opener is Tuesday, April 9th.
