Audio recordings of Lauren McCluskey’s calls to police released

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) – New audio recordings of calls to  police, released by the Salt Lake City attorney’s office, reveal how worried Lauren McCluskey was in the days leading up to her murder.

Just three days before her death, McCluskey can be heard calling Salt Lake City Police.

Dispatch:

“Dispatch, this is (redacted).”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Hi.”

Dispatch:

“Hi.”

Lauren McCluskey:

“I’m just — I’m worried because I — I’ve been working with the campus police at the U, and last Saturday I reported and then I haven’t gotten an update.”

Dispatch:

“Okay.”

Lauren McCluskey:

“But — but someone contacted me today, someone who is harassing me, said that they know everything about the police.”

Dispatch:

“Okay. So, wait. You already spoke to the campus police? Did this happen on the University of Utah campus?”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Yes. Yes. They haven’t updated or done anything. So the case, it involves extortion, and those people are still (call breaks up) me.”

Dispatch:

“Okay. So have you notified the campus police about this?”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Yes I have.”

Dispatch:

“Okay. What prompted you to call Salt Lake City Police?”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Well I thought it was weird that there are people who know about the entire case and the harassers seem to know about it more than me, and I’m concerned there might be an insider who’s letting them know about the case.”

Dispatch:

“Okay.”

Lauren McCluskey:

“And I haven’t gotten updates.”

Dispatch:

“Yeah.”

Lauren McCluskey:

“And it’s been a week.”

Dispatch:

“With something like that, you would want to contact the campus police back and speak with your detective if you’re concerned or a detective’s supervisor. Since it’s another agency’s area, the Salt Lake City Police wouldn’t be involved.”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Oh okay.”

Dispatch:

“Alright?”

“And make sure you tell them what you told me that this is getting through to you from the suspects in your case.”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Okay, so the detective you said is who I should contact?”

Dispatch:

“Right. Call the dispatch back and ask to speak with the detective.”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Okay. Sounds good, thank you.”

Dispatch:

“And if you’re out and about and you see them when you’re on Salt Lake City property not on University of Utah property, for something like that we would be the best people to call. Does that make sense?”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Yes.”

Dispatch:

“Okay.”

Lauren McCluskey:

“Thanks, bye.”

Dispatch:

“Thank you.”

In a letter posted on line, Lauren’s parents write: “…failures by staff to provide support and security to Lauren, principally by the UUPD as well as by other entities at the university, had fatal consequences.”
