ST. GEORGE, Utah (News4Utah) – As the St. George teen who disappeared without a trace 2.5 years ago turns 20, many are still actively searching for the blond haired, blue eyed boy who has captured the hearts of tens of thousands of people all over the world.
Macin Smith turned 20 today, April 7. Little is known about what happened to Macin after he left his home for school early Tuesday September 1, 2015. Macin left behind all of his belongings and has not been seen or heard from since.
Macin’s parents, Tracey and Darren Smith, along with his siblings, family, friends, and the over 55,000 followers of the Help Find Macin Smith Facebook page, hold onto the hope that one day they will have answers.
Friends and family have asked everyone to print at least one bolo (be on look out) flyer and post it somewhere you think will get the most exposure. Then snap a photo and post it to the “Help Find Macin Smith” page so “Macin can see all the love and support on his birthday”.
They will be celebrating Macin’s 20th Birthday all of April and have asked others to join them in doing random acts of kindness and sharing his informaiton.
In a video post to the Facebook page, the family continues to find ways some good to come from all the pain of not knowing where Macin is.
“I was thinking how great it would be if everyone picked up the challenge of connecting with 20 people, like reaching out to extend fellowship and love to each other and making sure that everybody in your circle has support, love and appreciation,” Bratt-Smith said. “So that anyone that you have influence over doesn’t feel alone, I feel that is important. Especially as I think of my boy and how alone he felt.”
Macin left home the morning of September 1, 2015. Both his parents thought he was on his way to school but later found out he never even made it to school and had left his cell phone, wallet and computer at home, taking nothing with him.
Bratt-Smith and her husband found a note a week later inside his wallet. While they have not shared the contents of the note, they have indicated it has lead them to believe he might have intended to harm himself.
There have been many reported sightings of Macin over the last two and a half years, all over the country but none have turned out to be him.
Bratt-Smith said they are starting to work with a case manager to help generate an age progressed photo of her son and they are now in possession of the hard drive to Macin’s computer and are in the process of trying to get information from it.
Macin is 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has light blue eyes and he had short blond hair when he went missing. The Smith family moved to Utah from Canada in spring 2015. Macin however was raised in Saratoga Springs until the eighth grade.
