UTAH COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) – New details have emerged in the case of a Utah County Sheriff’s deputy arrested on child molestation charges out of Arizona.
Gerald Salcido, 63, was arrested January 5 on multiple counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
The allegations stem from a child molestation case out of Mesa, Ariz. in 1995. Investigators say the original case went cold when detectives did not have enough evidence to move forward with the charges. Police say two juveniles had reported being molested by Salcido 10 years before in Mesa.
A new witness came forward in September 2017, causing detectives to re-open the case. With the new information, detectives conducted follow-up interviews in Utah. Police say these interviews provided them with enough information that led them to submit criminal charges.
Salcido was charged with three counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
Salcido was placed on administrative leave from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office immediately following his arrest. He was officially fired from department on January 16. Salcido was previously employed as an officer for the Mesa Police Department from 1980-1986.
