02/25/2019 – The American Red Cross is facing a severe shortage of type O blood. The Red Cross says this is the type of blood that is most in demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type.

Type O is the blood emergency room personnel reach for when there’s no time to determine the patient’s blood type.

The Red Cross is partnering up with HBO to invite Game of Thrones fans to celebrate the final season and encourage people to participate in the ‘Bleed #ForTheThrone’ this March. This is the largest partnership for blood donation and promotional effort by an entertainment company in Red Cross history.

It’s a six-day event that runs from March 7th to the 12th where Game of Thrones fans and blood donors in 43 states are encouraged to participate for a chance to win swag.

As part of the sweepstakes, fans who donate blood or platelets with the Red Cross now through March 17th will automatically be entered for a chance to win one of five trips to the season 8 world premiere of Game of Thrones. The trip includes hotel accommodations and a $250 gift card.
