SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – Four decades of saving lives.

Thursday, University of Utah Health celebrated Airmed. Airmed was established in June of 1978 as the eighth air medical transport program in the nation.

Since that time, it has transported nearly 75,000 patients, one of which was Cali Hinckley when she was 21-weeks pregnant.

“Everything they did… from the time that they dispatched the helicopter, their flight time to get to my house, how they acted and reacted at the scene, 100% saved my life, without them, there’s no way I would be here today, which is amazing! It means everything to me and my family!” said Hinckley.

The University of Utah serves the single biggest geographic area of any academic medical center in the United States.
