Senator Orrin Hatch took the opportunity to remind Congress of Josh Holt, a Utahn unlawfully detained in Venezuela, Wednesday morning.

“I’d like to open my remarks by joining the President and the American people in welcoming home three courageous individuals who have been held in captivity in North Korea. We are grateful for their safe return. But even as we celebrate their homecoming, we cannot forget about another brave American who has been unlawfully detained abroad: Joshua Holt,” Sen Hatch said.

Holt traveled to Venezuela in 2016 to marry Thamara Candela. A short time later, he and his wife were arrested and accused of illegal possession of weapons. They have been held in prison ever since.

The Senator has been working the last two years to secure their release.
