About 1200 safety patrol kids spend a day at Lagoon

Local News

FARMINGTON, Utah (ABC4 News) – About 1200 children spent their Saturday at the Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington.

The West Valley City Police Department said this was their way of saying thank you to their safety patrol team.

The group was open to all fifth and sixth graders who had good grades and showed great behavior, according to officials.

Police say these children volunteer all year by helping their classmates cross the streets and get to school safely.

Aiden is one of those kids who got to put down his badge and put away his safety cone for a day of fun.

He said, “There’s a lot of people in my school that got hurt with broken arms or a lot of behavior kids that go around my school. I just want the school to be safe.”

The safety patrol team has been around for 34 years and officials say 27 elementary schools in West Valley participate in the program.
