Abandoned home in West Valley destroyed by fire

Local News

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – An early morning fire has destroyed an abandoned home in West Valley City.

The fire broke out around seven this morning at 2900 West Lehman Avenue.

Around 30 firefighters were on scene after the house ignited. Fire officials say the home has been abandoned for a while but that someone may have been illegally living in there without anyone knowing.

Jed Peters, Battalion Chief of West Valley City Fire, told News4Utah, “It does look like since it was abandoned for so long that some other people might have taken up residency in the house and we haven’t been able to find any of those people to ask them what was going on.”

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire caused between 75 to 100 thousand dollars worth of damage.
