9-year-old girl killed after being struck by car in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – A 9-year-old girl has died after police said she was struck while chasing after her dog in Salt Lake City Saturday morning. 

According to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Justin Hudson the incident happened about 10:20 a.m. near 1465 West 500 North. 

According to witnesses they believe the girl ran into the street as she was chasing her dog when she was struck by a SUV. The driver who did not see the girl, is cooperating with police. 

The girl was transported to the hospital where she was declared deceased. Hudson said this appears to just be a horrific accident. 

The name if the girl has not been released pending notification of family. Police originally thought the girl was 10 but Hudson said they have learned she was 9.
