OGDEN (News4Utah) – The 4 year-old was at a playground Wednesday evening when Marcus King says he saw her. She was wearing only pajamas, no shoes and no jacket, so he decided to step in and help.
The playground is attached to the Marshall White Community Center on 28th St. in Ogden. King says when he didn’t see any adults watching her, he stopped and asked if she was okay.
He said, “I saw her just dragging her poor feet in the snow, I asked her where her parents were and she shrugged, said I don’t know.” After a little more prodding, the girl said “her mom was laying on the floor, she wasn’t paying attention and she was sleeping.” King brought her inside the community center and called the police.
Police found that the girl lived right across the street and her door was wide open. Officers determined the mother had died nearly 24 hours before from an existing health condition.
King is thankful he found the little girl before something happened to her. He said, “I just thought what if that was my kid? Even if I was OK my kid just got out, what if that was my kid?”
The girl is with her grandmother now and they are planning on meeting with King to thank him in person.
