3 inmates hospitalized after fight at Utah State Prison

DRAPER, Utah (News4Utah) – Utah State Prison remains on lockdown Thursday after a fight broke out between inmates Wednesday night.

Emergency crews were called to the prison after the altercation at the Uinta Facility involving a eight inmates, according to statement released by the Department of Corrections.

Three inmates were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries: one by helicopter and two by ambulance. Thursday, officials say the inmates were in stable condition.

Officials say inmate-manufactured weapons were used during the fight.

No staff members were injured during the incident.

Originally first responders believed more people were injured triggering a large response. Several ambulances, more than were needed, responded to the facility.

The incident is under investigation.
