WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – Three people have been arrested after police said they believe they kidnapped a teen boy for ransom in West Valley City.
According to probable cause statements, Issa Jassim Al Sadoon, 26; Nadia Carolina Avalos, 32; and Juan Carlos Moreno Trinidad, 41 forcefully took the 17-year-old and demanded cash for his return or they would do harm to the boy if their demands were not met.
Police said during the investigation, they found the boy, and the three individuals at a South Salt Lake motel located at 3300 South 300 West. They were able to take the suspects into custody and rescue the boy.
In the room detectives found a loaded firearm, several phones and methamphetamine.
The suspects admitted to police they kidnaped the boy for money. The victim told detectives the suspects kidnapped him at gunpoint and he believed his mother would be hurt if he did not cooperate.
Although there was a ransom demand, the family did not pay any money to the suspects. It is believed the teen was kidnapped because a family member was involved in drug interactions. It is not believed to be gang related.
The boy was reunited safely with his mom.
All three suspects were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on various charges from kidnapping to theft by extortion and possession or use of a deadly weapon by a restricted person.
