24 apartments evacuated, 1 person injured after Cottonwood Heights apartment fire

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (ABC4 News) – An apartment fire in Cottonwood Heights caused 24 apartment units to be evacuated early Friday morning. 

Fire crews arrived on the scene of the fire just after 3:00 a.m. according to authorities. 

An elderly woman was transported to the University of Utah burn center with severe respiratory burns, officials said. 

Crews shut off power to help extinguish the fire completely. 

A shelter has been set up in the community by the Red Cross for those who were evacuated. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but officials say the damage is estimated at about  $200, 000.
