2 arrested after baby found dead at Midvale motel

MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4 News) – The parents of an infant found dead inside a motel room are now behind bars on investigation of Child Abuse Homicide.

Unified Police Department launched an investigation into a baby’s death Friday afternoon and called the circumstances “suspicious.”

Unified police officers responded to the Motel 6 at 7263 Catalpa St. in Midvale on an unrelated matter when an employee at the front desk notified them there was a 911 call coming from one of the rooms.

Officers responded to the room and found a 4-month-old baby boy on the bed unresponsive. They performed CPR, but the little boy died.  

Jose Ramirez, 21, and Jessica Lujan, 20, were booked into jail.

“The child had several bruises in varying stages of healing and was still warm to the touch” when police arrived, according to probable cause documents.

The child also had “several visible external injuries,” which included “an abrasion or possible laceration on the left side of the child’s neck, according to the documents.

The Family Support Center has three Crisis Nurseries, which exist to help parents who need a break.
