17-year-old killed in Ogden ATV crash

OGDEN, Utah (ABC4 News) – A 17-year-old boy died after the ATV he was on crashed and struck a tree on Saturday in Ogden. 

According to a press release posted to the Ogden Police Department Facebook, officers responded to a report of an ATV crash at 12:24 p.m. to the 1000 block of Canfield Drive. 

Witnesses told police two 17-year-old males were riding the ATV when crashed and hit the tree, ejecting both of them from the vehicle. 

One of the teens, identified as Juan Carlos Vazquez Ixtlahuaca, was transported to the hospital with severe head injuries, where he later died. The other teen was taken to the hospital by a third party to be treated for a hand injury. 

During the investigation, police learned the driver of the ATV was headed west on Canfield Drive when he came to a turn and lost control of the ATV causing him to run off the road and strike a tree. 

Police said neither of the teens were wearing helmets.
