WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News) – A 16-year-old was transported to the hospital by his friends after he was shot by an unknown person Wednesday.
Police say they received a call from a hospital about the teen’s injuries just before 7 p.m. They said the boy was brought in with a superficial gun wound to the arm.
The boy told police that he and his friends were driving on Bangerter Hwy with his dog in the back seat when they turned off Bangerter and 7000 South and went behind the store Zurchers to let the dog out to the bathroom.
The boy reported that a blue car opened fire on them and that’s how he sustained the gunshot wound. The person or people who shot the teen fled the scene according to police.
Officials say the boy was immediately taken to the hospital but no one called police at the time of the incident.
Detectives went to Zurchers and concluded that the story does not match up with the information given to them by the injured boy.
They say there was no back surveillance camera or physical evidence in the area. Detectives are interviewing juveniles in the area to try and figure out what happened.
This is a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
