BOX ELDER COUNTY (News4Utah) – The body of a missing toddler was found Monday night inside a canal near his house.
Box Elder County officials say dispatch received a call about a missing 16-month-old boy around 9 p.m. The boys father told police he had been playing in the yard with his brothers and then they noticed he was gone.
Officials were informed that an irrigation canal and irrigation ditch was near the home.
All agencies in Box Elder County responded including the Box Elder Scuba and Search and Rescue. The child had been missing for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Deputies said the canal company was called and was in the process of turning the water out of the canal when the child was found around 9:45 in a body of water east of the residence.
The boy, identified as 16-month-old Jackson Scott Weaver, was found by his father inside a pipe about 530 yards from the opening near the home, a press release from Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said.
By the time he was discovered, officials say the boy was already dead.
“This was a tragic accident and no foul play is suspected,” officials said.
This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
