CEDAR FORT, Utah (News4Utah) – A 13-year-old boy was found after being lost three hours Sunday morning in the foothills of Cedar Fort.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff’s Office, said the boy got separated from his family around 7:45 a.m. and the family searched for a couple of hours but could not find him.

Deputies and search and rescue responded and around 10:45 a.m. the boy was finally located. It is not clear who found him or what condition he was in when found but the boy does not appear to have any injuries.

Cannon said it doesn’t take much to get lost, this family just got a little separated and lost contact but it thankfully ended well. He suggests talking about hiker safety and how to prepare for going up in the mountains and to remind your kids that if they get lost to “stay put” so others can find you.

Taking the time to help them understand what they need to do before the hike is important. You can find great tips for hiking with children at parentmap.com.
