12-year-old killed while crossing I-15 near Cedar City

Local News

CEDAR CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A 12-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a car as he crossed I-15 near Cedar City Sunday night.

Utah Highway Patrol said for some unknown reason the boy, from Gilbert, Arizona, attempted to cross I-15 near milepost 57 just before 8 p.m.

The boy died from his injuries on scene.

The driver of the car that hit him told troopers she did not see the boy and was unable to avoid the collision.

Troopers say that due to the time of day, light conditions, and clothing worn by the boy, it would have been very difficult to see him. No other contributing factors appeared to be present.

Troopers are attempting to determine why the boy was in the area and trying to cross the freeway and notify family members before releasing additional information.
