FILMORE, Utah (News4Utah) – A teenager is dead and six people are injured after a minivan rolled over on I-15 Saturday night officials say.
The minivan was traveling south on I-15 near milepost 160 at about 6:54 p.m., according to authorities.
Police say, the driver of the vehicle allowed it to drift off the left side of the road to a point near the edge of the rumble strips. The driver was driving with a learner’s permit with her father in the passenger side officials say.
She steered sharply right, causing the minivan to begin sliding on its side. The vehicle crossed both lanes and left the road to the right, according to officials.
Police say the minivan rolled several times, crossed the right-of-way fence and the frontage road, coming to a stop on the right side of the frontage road.
A 12-year-old male and 14-year-old male were fully ejected from the car and the 12-year-old identified as Alex Speer of Escondido, California was killed, according to authorities.
A 9-year-old male sustained little to no injuries while the remaining passengers suffered serious injuries and were transported to the Fillmore hospital according to police.
A 48-year-old male and the teenage daughter were flown by helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital.
