SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – Ending a whirlwind weekend of changes and adjustments, President Russell M. Nelson made one more big announcement affecting members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sunday afternoon: the construction of 12 new temples around the world and the renovation of pioneer-era temples, including the historic Salt Lake Temple.

The brand new temples will be built in the following locations:

Mendoza, Argentina
Salvador, Brazil
Yuba City, California
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Praia, Cape Verde
Yigo, Guam
Puebla, Mexico
Auckland, New Zealand
Lagos, Nigeria
Davao, Philippines
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Washington County, Utah

The temple announcements were met with applause and cheers of joy in the conference center. Nelson also urged members to make temple attendance and worship a bigger priority.

The announcement comes after a change to church meeting schedules, reducing weekly meetings to two hours instead of three.
