MURRAY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) –One man is dead and a suspect is at-large after a shooting in Murray Wednesday evening.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. in the area of 4500 South State Street in Murray.

A red car pulled up in the parking lot of the Check City at 98 E 4500 S. An individual approached the car, opened the passenger side door and fired a gunshot hitting the driver in the head.

The driver, in response to his injury, immediately accelerated and lost control of the vehicle. He crossed several lanes of traffic and caused a five-vehicle crash. The wounded driver was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said there is evidence the shooting may be drug-related.

“He’s obviously concerning. It didn’t appear to be random. It appears to be drug-related and there’s probably some kind of an acquaintance between them, but still having this person out the street is dangerous,” said Kenny Bass with the Murray Police Department.

Witnesses said the shooter ran in a southwest direction from the scene and disappeared into a residential neighborhood. There, officers went house-to-house looking for the individual.

To residents who live the area, police suggest you stay inside and report any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.

This is a developing story. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
