SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – A man was arrested after police say he barricaded himself in Salt Lake City motel room.
Police said a man called 911 to report suspicious men near his room at the Salt City Inn at 1025 north 900 West. The caller told dispatch there was a man who may have a gun.
Officers responded and checked the area, but they did not find anything suspicious.
A short time later, another call was received from motel management reporting a domestic situation in the same room that originally called 911. One of the front windows of the apartment had been broken out.
Officers arrived, tried to make contact with the occupants, but found the door of the room had been barricaded.
Police said several loud “pops” that sounded like gunfire were heard in the room.
SWAT was called to the scene.
Negotiations were established, and the suspect and a woman eventually exited the room. The woman was not hurt. She told investigators she had seen the officers outside the window during their initial contact and the suspect thought they were the “man with a gun from earlier.”
Officers booked Johnny Maestas, 44, into jail for criminal mischief and several outstanding warrants.
