SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A baggage handler at the Salt Lake International Airport has been charged with theft after police learned she had allegedly been stealing luggage and other items that had been reported lost. 

Charging documents state Sarah Loe, 58, a contracted employee who works for Bags Inc., was charged with two counts of misdemeanor theft after victims positively identified luggage in Loe’s possession as theirs. 

The documents state a relative of the woman approached a police officer with the Salt Lake Airport and told them he thought Loe had been stealing luggage. Another relative who was also there said they were told by her the airport had just given her the bags. 

The officer responded to a home in Salt Lake City where more than 20 items, including suitcases, bags, backpacks, camera cases, rubber totes and boxes were collected, according to documents. 

Police were also informed of a storage unit “filled with suitcases and bags to the ceiling”. When officers responded to the unit with a search warrant and collected what was inside. 

During a search of the items, police found identifying information and contacted two individuals who told them they had lost suitcases and both received compensation from the airlines after filing claims. 

Loe was interviewed by police who asked, “What happens to me now?”. 

Loe has not been booked into jail. She has been summoned to appear in court on March 29.
