Layton teen receives Military Child of the Year Award

ARLINGTON, Va. (ABC4 Utah) A Utah teen received the Operation Homefront 2017 Air Force Military Child of the Year Award Thursday. Jamal Braxton of Layton, Utah received this prestigious award for his work with the Red Cross, veterans, and local youth groups.
 
In addition to his community efforts, he is also on his school’s varsity swimming, track and field, and cross country teams. The high school senior plans to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy.
 
Operation Homefront is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping military families thrive. The organization provides support military families with their financial situation, living arrangements, and other issues families face.
 
The awards ceremony was held Thursday at the Ritz Carlton in Arlington, Va. Operation Homefront honors a child from each of the six branches of the military. The children are recognized for their superior community engagement and academic excellence.
