UPDATE: Joshua Schoenenberger, the man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son in a fit of rage over a potty-training issue was found guilty of murder Friday afternoon in Farmington’s 2nd District Court.

The decision came down after a jury trial that lasted all week.

Schoenenberger told officers in May of 2015 that he squeezed the boy and stepped on him after the boy laughed and peed while he was holding him.

JJ was taken to the hospital with critical injuries including bruising, head trauma, tearing of his colon and damage to his stomach. He was taken off life support two days later.

Schoenenberger’s sentencing is scheduled for November 26. Prosecutors said they would not seek the death penalty although his case could warrant such a punishment.

The toddler’s mother, Jasmine Bridgeman was sentenced 1-to-15 years at the Utah State Prison and is scheduled for her first parole hearing in May of 2020.
