LOGAN, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – The Utah State scoring machine keeps on rolling.
Jordan Love threw for 322 yards and 5 touchdowns as Utah State rolled to its 5th straight victory with a dominating 59-28 win over UNLV.
“A great win for our guys,” said head coach Matt Wells. “I thought it was a really good turnout, and fans were great. They came out and continued to support our team, and it’s big to us to play really well and find a way to win in Maverik Stadium, and to do that again this week is great.”
The Aggies racked up 598 yards of total offense, including 223 yards on the ground, led by Gerold Bright with 72 yards on 11 carries.
Jalen Greene caught five passes for 132 yards and a touchdown, while Ron’Quavian Tarver hauled in two touchdown catches.
After giving up an early touchdown, Utah State scored 42 unanswered points to take an insurmountable 42-7 lead at the half. The Aggies scored six touchdowns on six consecutive possessions.
“I think we started the right way,” Love said. T”he first drive went down and even though we didn’t get any points, we took the ball down the end of the field. The second drive, we were backed up and that’s when we went three and out. After that, our offense just took off, both the offense and the defense. We were putting up points real quick, and the defense getting us the ball back was huge. After that, the game was kind of over.”
Love completed 17 of 23 passes, picking apart the UNLV defense all game long. Savon Scarver and Joran Nathan also caught touchdown passes, while Darwin Thompson and Henry Colombi each had a touchdown run.
“Just getting defensive stops and turning them into points.,” Wells said. “Finding ways to finish drives off with touchdowns. We were protecting Jordan and playing catch, so when we do that kind stuff, I think we can be special.”
“It just shows when our offense gets rolling, we can get rolling and put up points in a hurry,” Love said. “It was fun to be out there and it was almost like the plays we were calling, we were executing them. It’s a testament to the whole offense.”
Utah State improves to 5-1, 2-0 in the Mountain West Conference. The Aggies next hit the road on October 20th at Wyoming.
