PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (WOWK) – Multiple inmates dug a hole in a wall at Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in an attempted escape.

Around 2 PM on October 15th, 2018 Correctional Officers at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center discovered a hole that had been knocked through a cinder block wall by inmates attempting to escape from custody.

The hole was approximately 18 inches by 12 inches and was located in a shower room.

Authorities say that two pieces of metal were taken from a shelf in the cell and used to chip away at the blocks to create the hole. It led to a plumbing access area one wall away from the outside.

Officers from the Paintsville Police Department were dispatched to the Jail and are in charge of the investigation.

Big Sandy Regional Detention Center says they will update the public of any future developments.
