Inmate dies in Box Elder County Jail

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – The Box Elder County Chef Deputy says that at about noon, on Saturday, a man was arrested in Bear River City on an arrest warrant issued through the Tremonton City Justice Court.

Box Elder County Deputies transported Rex Iverson to the Box Elder County Jail where he was placed in a holding cell alone.

Just after 1pm a Deputy spoke with him to determine if he would be able to post bail on the offense. When the Deputy returned about 30 minutes later to begin the booking process Mr. Iverson was found unresponsive in the cell.

Lifesaving efforts were started by Deputies on scene. Brigham City Ambulance responded and transported Mr. Iverson to the Brigham City Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Because Mr. Iverson was in custody the Critical Incident Protocol was invoked and investigators from the Northern Utah Critical Incident Team were summoned;

Detectives from Brigham City Police and Cache County Sheriff’s Office responded to complete a full investigation.

There is no indication of foul play of any kind at this time. Investigation is active by both the outside agencies and Box Elder County Sheriff Detectives.
