ST. GEORGE (News4Utah) – Businesses in Southern Utah welcoming thousands of athletes over the age of 50 to the Huntsman World Senior Games.
The event officially got underway Tuesday night with an opening ceremony at Trailblazer Stadium on the campus of Dixie State University.
Organizers say it encompasses several sports.
Kyle Case, CEO of the games, says the event is “the largest annual multi-sport Olympic style event for athletes aged 50 and over in the entire world. We’ll host over 11,000, in fact probably around 11,300 athletes this year.”
Case says the economic impact from the games is impressive, roughly to the tune of $18 million, which he says participants will be spending at hotels and other Southern Utah businesses.
The games last two weeks and take place in a variety of venues around St. George.
