How prepared is Utah for a major disaster?

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) One question on the mind of many of us: Is Utah ready for a tragedy like Nepal is facing.

“If an earthquake were to happen on one segment of the Wasatch fault today we’d have about a third of a million people would be without a home… That’s a little frightening… We’d have probably around 14-thousand people killed by buildings falling on them,” said Ari Bruening, Chief Operating Officer of Envision Utah.

Envision Utah is working with experts to determine what our state could do to be more prepared for an earthquake. Some things our state could do?

Reinforce older buildings and make sure new buildings are built to withstand an earthquake.
