SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski announced Friday that the city will be building two homeless shelters instead of four.

Mayor Biskupski said the controversial Simpson Ave. and 600 West location will be dropped.

The High Ave. Resource Center (275 West 1400 South) and 700 South (131 East 700 South) locations will remain.  The county will be involved in selecting a site to build a shelter outside of Salt Lake City limits.

The current family center in Midvale is the fourth component of the plan and will expand.

A hard deadline of March 30, 2017 has been set for the selection of the third site.

As for the closure of the current shelter, officials say it will be closed by June 30, 2019.
