Glasgow aims to be United Kingdom’s first carbon-free city

GLASGOW (ABC4 News) The Scottish city of Glasgow has set an ambitious goal to be the first city in the United Kingdom to do that.

The city council is pledging to reach a “net zero” carbon emissions target before 2045.

The plan is to do that through a mass electric car charging scheme and a boost to the renewable electricity grid. Just last week, the United Kingdom has just experienced its first full week without any coal generation on the system.

This is the first time that has happened since 1882 when the first coal generation power station opened in London.
