Friends, family mourn death of Zion hiker who likely fell from Angels Landing trail

SPRINGDALE (ABC4 News) – Zion National Park officials confirmed the identity of the missing hiker who they say likely fell to his death at Angels Landing.

Friends and family mourned the loss of 35-year-old old Pradeep Beryl Solomon on Friday. They said he was a hardworking member of the community and a devoted friend.

Salt Lake City resident Erin Woodlief, a close friend of Solomon, said he always knew how to make everyone around him feel important and special.

“Beryl lived a life that revolved around everyone around him,” Woodlief said. “Make those around you know that you care because that’s what his life was all about. That’s the legacy that Beryl has left.”

Solomon told friends he planned to hike Angels Landing alone on Tuesday while taking a few paid days off. Officials said his roommate reported him missing Wednesday afternoon after he had failed to return home.

“We knew there was a problem right away if he was in the main canyon,” Zion National Park spokeswoman Aly Baltrus said. “His car was located in the main canyon and yet there was no sign of him.”

Zion’s Search and Rescue crew began searching Thursday morning and found Solomon’s body at the bottom of Angels Landing. Staff said conditions were slick on Tuesday when Solomon hiked the trail.

“We really feel for that family and those friends and they’re definitely in our hearts,” said Baltrus.

ABC4 News received a statement from Mitchell Jones, another of Solomon’s friends:

“Beryl was someone that had an infectious smile and positive attitude. He always showed interest in the details of your life, even if you weren’t his closest friend. Beryl was the friendliest person, and he’ll be missed by so many.”

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will continue the investigation into Solomon’s death.
