Father dies while hiking Utah County trail; missing autistic adult son has been found

UTAH COUNTY (ABC4 UTAH) – Members of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a 21-year-old severely autistic man who went missing while hiking with his father Friday afternoon. According to tweets by Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the young man’s 57-year-old father died on a trail near the Jacob’s Ladder area.

The missing man’s name is Michael Laughlin. His father is Charles Laughlin of West Jordan.

ABC4 Utah confirmed with Utah County Sheriff’s dispatch that an active search was taking place overnight. The Sheriff’s Office is staging its search out of an LDS Church in the Suncrest subdivision area of Utah County. 

UPDATE: MIchael Laughlin has been found and is in good condition. Authorities are currently investigating his father Charles’ death.
