Expected itinerary for President Trump’s Utah trip and what it means for federal lands


SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) President Trump is coming to Salt Lake City Monday, December 4. Air Force one is expected to touch down at 10:50 A.M. at the Air National Guard Base on the east side of the Salt Lake International Airport.

The President will speak at the state capitol at 12:30 P.M. That’s where he’s expected to announce massive reductions in the size of Bears Ears Monument and Grand Staircase Escalante. After that, he’ll have a meeting with officials for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days saint, and a possible tour of Welfare Square. This schedule could change at any moment. 

Tim Chambless is an associate professor/lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Utah. He teaches classes on American government, political parties, constitutional law, law and politics and other topics. Prior to joining the U’s political science department, Tim worked for former Salt Lake City Mayor Ted Wilson and former Utah Gov. Scott Matheson. He also worked as the intern coordinator for the Hinckley Institute and has taught at Salt Lake Community College and Weber State University. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
