SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Rihanna declined an offer to headline the Super Bowl LIII halftime show because she stands behind former 49er, Colin Kaepernick, US Weekly reports.
“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” a source told the publication. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”
Once the “Umbrella” singer turned down the gig, the NFL extended the offer to Maroon 5 and the group gladly accepted.
Kaepernick, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers, created a firestorm when he began kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to protest police brutality and social injustice.
