(WTVO) — The hit 80’s sitcom “Punky Brewster” may be the latest sitcom making a comeback, as Universal has put a sequel into development, which would feature the return of original star Soleil Moon Frye.

The original “Punky Brewster” aired on NBC from 1984-1986. The new version is being written by Steve and Jim Armogida, who did the “School of Rock” TV series.

Actor George Gaynes, who played Punky’s foster parent, died in 2016.

CNN says the new series will focus on a grown up Punky, now a single mother of three children, who meets a young girl who reminds her of herself.
