SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – Utah Jazz backup center Ekpe Udoh has run a book club with fans for many years.
Yesterday on Twitter, he asked his followers which book they should read next. One of the options was Michelle Obama’s best-selling autobiography, Becoming, and even though she was at the Grammy’s last night, the former First Lady tweeted, “Do I get a vote? #Ekpesbookclub.”
Udoh was absolutely floored.
“It was impressive,” he said. “I was sitting at my little desk, and the next thing you know, I look at my phone and it said Michelle Obama. I said, ‘Oh OK.’ But then I looked again and really researched it and I started sweating. So it was a great feeling.”
Udoh immediately responded on Twitter, “Of course, no voter supression here! We will be reading Becoming next.”
“Who would think Michelle Obama would just tweet out of the blue with no connection,” Udoh said. “It was special. For her to come on and use the hashtag was huge for the book club and everybody that participates in it.”
So is Udoh going to get Michelle Obama to speak as a guest author?
“Who knows? If she pops up, that would be amazing,” he said. “We’ll see if we can get her involved with the discussion of the book in a few weeks.”
Speaking of tweets, it should be pretty fun to watch Rudy Gobert and Draymond Green tomorrow as the Jazz take on Golden State in their final game before the All-Star break.
After Gobert broke down in tears after not getting selected to play in the All-Star Game, Green mocked Gobert on Twitter, saying, “I guess I should cry too? No Charlotte.” Head coach Quin Snyder doesn’t think the feud is that big of a deal.
“They’re actually two guys that care about winning,” Snyder said. “That stuff always goes on. It’s guys that compete, and to be honest with you I don’t think either of them think its as big of deal as the drama and entertainment that it provides. I think Draymond knows Rudy is a good player, and Rudy knows Draymond and what a great player he is, I think both guys just want to compete.”
There should be some fun fireworks tomorrow night in Oakland.
