TUCSON, Ariz. (ABC4 News) – 13 dogs from Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson, Ariz. are headed to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab to relieve overcrowding at the shelter.

The pets hit the road Wednesday morning as part of a volunteer network of animal shelters to provide space to animals even in areas where overcrowding is existent.

PACC officials said they hope to create a whole transport program and schedule future trips as overcrowding is expected to remain an issue at the shelter. Currently, the center houses 1,600 homeless animals.
