SPRINGVILLE Utah (ABC4 Utah) – A 27-year-old father was booked into the Utah County jail after allegedly beating his 4-month-old daughter.
Springville Police Lt. Warren Foster said Philip Hatfield was taken into custody early Sunday morning after he was found walking naked in the roadway. He told police that he had killed his daughter.
But the 4-month old was still alive and rushed to a local hospital. Lt. Foster said she sustained a skull fracture, facial injuries and broken bones. Lt. Warren said the infant remains hospitalized and could be released Tuesday.
“He threw are like a rag doll,” said Lt. Warren.
In a police affidavit, Hatfield told police he threw the child to several locations. During a course of a fight with his wife, he grabbed the infant from her bed.
“He then threw her against a wall, threw her down onto a pool table and rubbed broken glass in her eyes,” the police affidavit stated.
Lt. Warren said Hatfield told police that “he was trying to kill her.”
Hatfield was booked into the Utah County jail for attempted aggravated murder, child abuse, lewdness, assault and domestic violence with a child present.
Police say there were two other children in the home, ages 4 and 2 years old. Neither of them were injured.
