SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) For over 20 years, the annual Strut Your Mutt brings together rescue groups, shelters and individuals to celebrate the collective effort of saving the lives of shelter pets.
Best Friends Strut Your Mutt Salt Lake City was held at Liberty Park and had activities include a toy making demonstration by Kids4Pets, an obstacle lure course by Course A’Lure, and a Paws N Pals tent, where you can create hand and paw prints in paint on a souvenir canvas.
There was also a Primp Your Pup tent with Paul Mitchell, pet psychic, and dog field games and new this year was “Cookie Creations”- – Vosen’s Bakery that provided dog biscuits and canine-friendly frosting, where kids got to decorate them.
Adults were able to enjoy a Beer Garden presented by Squatters/Wasatch Brewery.
Friday, two animal-loving Hollywood stars stopped by Best Friends Animal Society’s Pet Adoption Center in Sugar House to snuggle some cute kittens. Amy Smart and Adrian Grenier are in town working on a film, and made some time to come by some time with our animals.
Amy Smart was at the walk Saturday morning and wanted others to know just how important it is to adopt a pet instead of shopping for new ones. Smart has been a supporter of Best Friends for 15 years and was thrilled to be able to be a apart of the walk.
The walk was presented by BOBS from Skechers as part of Strut Your Mutt, Best Friends Animal Society who started the #9000Steps Challenge to raise awareness for the estimated 9,000 dogs and cats killed every day in America’s shelters simply because they do not have a safe place to call home.
Saturdays walk was attended by over 2500 people and over 1000 dogs. Temma Martin, Public Relations Specialist for Best Friends Animal Society said they have raised over $240,000 so far.
Its not too late to donate, Martin said you can go to their website Strutyourmutt.org. Donations are open until October 31.
