SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC Utah) – More people are doing their part to conserve water today.
The Utah rivers council has been conducting a rain harvest program. Getting 50 gallon rain barrels to homeowners to catch the rain when it comes, then using it for yards and gardens. Today they were at the parking lot of the Steiner aquatic center.
Nick Schou of the Utah Rivers Council tells us, “We have the highest per person water use of any state in the entire United States. Much of that water is used outside the home. So we’re here today distributing over 600 rain barrels to residents eager to do their part to conserve water in their own homes.”
They hope to work in the future with cities, counties and towns. With thousands of these barrels at homes, they figure they can save millions of gallons of precious water.
