PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – The BYU baseball team will open their first NCAA Tournament in 15 years Thursday in the Stanford Regional against Cal State Fullerton.
The Cougars clinched an automatic bid by winning four games in two days at the West Coast Conference Tournament this weekend, sweeping Gonzaga on the final day 10-3 and 16-3.
BYU hasn’t played in the NCAA Tournament since 2002.
The Cougars (37-19) are the 3-seed in the regional, and will face 3-time national champion Cal State Fullerton (34-21) on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. mountain time.
Top-seeded Stanford (40-14) will face Sacramento State (32-27) in the other half of the bracket. The regional is a double elimination tournament with the winner moving on to the Super Regionals next weekend.
