Boy hospitalized after accidental shooting


SANDY, Utah (News4Utah) – A 14-year-old boy from Sandy is recovering from a gunshot wound.

Later Friday afternoon, Sandy police went to the boy’s home after a call of teen being shot. After an investigation, officers learn the boy was holding a gun it accidentally went off shooting him in the leg.

“When officers did arrive on scene they did perform life-saving measures and they did treat him and turned him over to the fire department who transported him to a local hospital. As far as the injuries go they are fairly severe, however they are non-life threatening. He will live,” said Sgt. Jason Nielsen with Sandy Police Department.

Sgt. Neilsen says before you ever pick up a gun, it’s important to know how to handle it safely.
