OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – Weber County Sheriff’s Office have identified the female body discovered on a mountain side east of Ogden Monday morning as Amber Lyne Smith, 23-years-old of Ogden.

“She was located about 1500 N. Mountain Rd. above the Bonneville Shoreline Trail up in a pretty dense area of oak brush a ways off the trail,” said Lt. Lane Findlay with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.”

She reportedly lived in the area where her body was found and was known occasionally to go hiking.  Police say Smith went missing sometime around the first part of April of this year.  Family and friends knew she had been missing but did not file an official missing persons report with police.

“There were some communications, conversations between friends and family members that she was missing but, for whatever reason nobody officially came forward and reported her as a missing person,” said Findlay.

Police are waiting on an autopsy report to figure out the cause of death.  Police say her death is suspicious and is being investigated as a homicide. Investigators are asking for anyone with information about Amber to please come forward.

Contact Detective Colvin at 801-778-6638 if you have any information that may help with the investigation.

ABC 4 will have more on this story as it develops.
