SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – The Final Four in the first ever 6A boys basketball playoffs.
Top-ranked Lone Peak made 13 three-pointers and cruised past Davis in the quarterfinals. The Knights, who haven’t lost to a team from Utah this season, extend their winning streak to 14 straight. Steven Ashworth made five shots from beyond the arc and finished with 19 points, while Jaxon Pollard added 14 for the Knights.
Lone Peak will take on Layton in the semifinals on Friday. The Lancers rallied in the final minutes to beat Westlake, 68-65. Brooks Kokkola scored the go-ahead basket with under two minutes to play for Layton. Collin Jeppson had 19 points, while Truman Brown added 18 points for the Lancers.
Matt Van Komen had 18 points and 11 rebounds as Pleasant Grove won their quarterfinal game against Weber, 64-49. Casey Brown had 13 points for the Vikings, while Kael Mikkelsen added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Vikings will next battle Copper Hills in the semifinals. The Grizzlies pulled away from Fremont, 65-53, shooting a blistering hot 65 percent from the field. Trevon Allfrey had a fantastic game, scoring 31 points for the Grizzlies.
The 6A and 5A semifinals will be played at the Huntsman Center Friday starting at 2:30 p.m.
