Allergy season is upon is here in Utah. Many of you are probably wondering what pollen is exactly and why does it cause allergies? Pollen is tiny grains released into the air by grasses and trees as a way of fertilizing other plants. When these grains get into the nose of a person, it triggers the immune system to over react.
Common Symptoms of Seasonal Allergies?:
- Runny and stuffy nose
- Watery/dry, burning eyes
- Itchy throat, eyes, sinuses, mouth and ear canals
- Postnasal drainage
All of these symptoms are the bodies way of trying to rid itself of the pollen
Suggestions For People Who Suffer From Seasonal Allergies:
- Try to identify your triggers
- Keep the nose clean and moist.
- Treat your symptoms
Keeping your nose clean and moist at all times protects the tissues from the pollen and keeps the body from reacting.
Note: As far as which medicines to use while going through seasonal allergies, you can use any kind of your choice. Be sure to keep some eye drops on your incase you have really bad dry, burning eyes.
