Utah’s rate of child sexual abuse is 3 times the national average. Rachelle Rutherford is a survivor and now advocates for Prevent Child Abuse Utah (PCAU). She informed us that 1 in 4 girls and i in 6 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18 and that 90% of the time a child will be abused by someone in their circle of trust, not a stranger.

Rachelle said the importance of the PCAU Sexual Abuse Prevention Education for children and adults is important because it educates children to recognize abuse, engages children to learn safety strategies and empowers children to report abuse. The programs also teach adult community members how to prevent child abuse, how to identify signs of possible abuse and how to report abuse.
